Discover first-run, foreign, and independent films screened in one of the eight wall-to-wall screen auditoriums. State-of-the-art projection equipment and Dolby Digital surround sound will put you at the center of the drama unfolding on the screen in front of you.
Recent films audiences have enjoyed at Baxter Avenue Theatres Include, “Top Gun Maverick,” “Where the Crawdads Sing,” and “Bullet Train.” Ticket prices are $10 per adult for an evening show, $8 for students and military members, $7.50 for children and seniors, and $7.50 for matinee shows before 6 p.m. An all-day Tuesday special is available for $5.75 per person (excluding 3D films and films screened on select national holidays).

Kentucky Science Center Digital Theater
“Don’t just see a movie. Experience it!” That’s the invitation from the Kentucky Science Center. Presenting documentary films and full-length Hollywood movies, Kentucky’s only four-story, precision white screen, 3D digital theater will captivate your senses with a cinematic experience unlike anything you’ll witness in the state.
Recent screenings at the Kentucky Science Center’s Digital Theater have included the following:
- The 1993 Disney film “Hocus Pocus” tells the tale of teens who free a coven of witches in an abandoned house in Salem, Massachusetts. With a magical cat’s help, the teens plot to steal the coven’s book of spells before the witches become immortal.
- The immersive “Galapagos 3D: Nature’s Wonderland” documentary invites theatergoers to experience the wonders of the Galapagos Islands.
- MacGillivray Freeman’s “Into America’s Wild” takes audience members on a cross-country journey to some of North America’s most dynamic but little-known landscapes.
The Kentucky Science Center Digital Theater makes an ideal setting for a group field trip. If you bring 10 or more guests and book your tickets at least three weeks in advance, you can choose the feature film you want to see. Iroquois Amphitheater
As the official amphitheater for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Iroquois Amphitheater is a handicapped-accessible theater that seats approximately 2,400 people and hosts various performing arts and cultural programs in Iroquois Park. Operated by the Louisville Metro government and the Louisville Department of Parks and Recreation, the Iroquois Amphitheater also hosts movie nights for guests visiting Iroquois Park during the summer. The Iroquois Amphitheater box office opens for in-person ticket purchases on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sauerbeck Family Drive-In
You’ll only have to drive about a half hour from Louisville to La Grange to discover one of the newest drive-in movie theaters in the country. Sauerbeck Family Drive-In lets you enjoy your favorite films outdoors. The facility features state-of-the-art 4K digital projection capabilities, a 98-foot diagonal screen, and FM-transmitted sound. Whether you want to relive your childhood memories of catching a movie at the drive-in or haven’t had the opportunity to experience a drive-in theater, Sauerbeck Family Drive-In should be on your must-visit list.
Sauerbeck Family Drive-In screens classic films, such as “Grease” and “Footloose,” and contemporary titles, such as “Top Gun Maverick.” Films are back to back, with the first film at 9 p.m. during the summer and 8:45 p.m. beginning Aug. 26.
Tickets are $11 for adults and $6 per child (ages 3-12) for new movies. For retro movie viewings, the ticket cost is $15 per carload. Sauerbeck Family Drive-in is open in all weather conditions, including rain and snow. Concession snacks are available upon arrival or as preorders through the theater’s website . Guests who want to bring their own snacks to enjoy while watching movies can purchase a food permit with their tickets for a $5 add-on fee.

Speed Art Museum Cinema
Tucked inside the Speed Art Museum, this movie theater will appeal to cinema patrons who enjoy documentaries, biopics, and independent films not shown at other movie theaters. Recent presentations have included titles such as “Fire of Love,” “Neptune Frost,” and “After Sherman.”
Most cinema presentations take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, although you’ll want to check the museum’s website for a list of upcoming dates and show times. Tickets are $12 per person or $8 for museum members.
